Modigliana belongs to the Province of Forlì-Cesena. The dual dominance of the neighboring Tuscany and Romagna has given the land an excellent blend of the two. Their traces are present in several areas of local life and culture like the dialect, traditions, architecture and cuisine. The city has retained its vibrant character and experienced a great cultural and urban expansion under the Grand Duke of Tuscany. From the second half of the 19th century it became a diocesan town. Florence (100 km) is one of Italy's greatest cultural centers. Famous landmarks include the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with the huge dome, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the famous painting and sculpture collection to the Palazzo Vecchio and Ponte Vecchio. Florence is heavily visited by tourists. For the visit of the city is advisable to schedule more than one day.
Ravenna (70 km) is famous for the amazing early Christian and Byzantine mosaics. These decorate fabulous basilicas and monuments introducing Ravenna with its historical heritage (the capital of the Western Roman Empire) keeping the charm of the small town.
Within 1 hour drive (about 70 km.) you can reach the beautiful city of Bologna, surrounded by hills. The city center has retained its beauty as it was in the Renaissance with dark-colored buildings, towers, magical squares and arched doorways.
The city of Ferrara (120 km) invites its guests to visit the Renaissance quarter with its numerous palaces. In 1995, the historical center of Ferrara has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The city still retains the magnificent architectural examples of the Renaissance.
The Casentino National Park is a natural reserve containing the largest forest area in Italy. Located in the North it is also called the green heart of Tuscany. Huge trees, colorful flowers, beautiful waterfalls, small hamlets and solitary houses can be admired in this vast natural area. The large forests shelter wild animals such as wolves and golden eagles.
There are nine easy and short trails exploring the woods. They have been created to give everyone the opportunity to admire the beautiful landscapes and panoramas.
